Julie Coombe

Julie trained in Acting at Queen Margaret University and has enjoyed an incredibly varied career in Theatre, Radio and Television for over three decades.

As an actor Julie has performed in the Scottish classics like The Slab Boys Trilogy and The Steamie. She also wowed audiences with her outrageous performance in The Vagina Monologues which led to the creation of her hit comedy sketch show Hormonal Housewives with producer Michael Harrison. Hormonal Housewives has become a bit of a juggernaut which has seen six UK tours, all of which Julie has led.

Julie has performed at pretty much every theatre up and down the UK. Julie is incredibly proud to have appeared in Lena the new musical play about the life of legendary Scottish child star Lena Zavaroni alongside the brilliant Jon Culshaw as Hughie Green. Julie created the role of Hilda, Lena’s mother. The show, which Julie also co-produced, was a smash hit at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe and a tour is on the cards.

A Pantomime veteran, Julie has played everything from Principal Boys to Genies and Fairies to Wicked Queens and most recently appeared in Sleeping Beauty at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen for Crossroads Pantomimes as the hilariously unhinged Carabosse.

On TV Julie has ticked off a couple of Scottish soaps starting with STV’s High Road but is best known for her stint in BBC’s River City as Terri the tart with no heart. She was the alien mum Mrs Krspltyx in the CBBC series Intergalactic Kitchen. And her comedy credits for the BBC include the sketch show Revolver, the sitcom Millport and she kept the flag flying for the girls in three seasons of Live Floor Show with the likes of Dara O’Braian, Miles Jupp and Al Murray. Julie also had an absolute blast as the gullible Rona in the crime comedy drama Hope Springs where she was cast for having more than a passing resemblance to Alex Kingston.

Julie has penned comedies for the BBC including On The Couch and the sitcom PTA. For more than a decade, alongside her husband John, Julie ran Melting Pot a monthly new comedy writing night at The Stand Comedy Club which gave budding comedy writers a much-needed platform and resulted in many of the writers progressing to work in radio and TV. Julie also appeared in The Stand’s own sketch shows Skitters and Fish Supper which brought her to the attention of TV comedy producers.

Julie loves writing comedy for the stage with her husband, John. Together they have created Hormonal Housewives, the musical comedy Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Housewives on Holiday. They also write pantomimes. Most recently Jack and the Beanstalk for the Queen’s Theatre, Barnstaple and Cinderella for the Gatehouse Theatre, Stafford.

Julie and John are delighted to be working with fellow producer Alan Mackintosh on this latest project. Their shows have delighted audiences all over the UK and they are looking forward to lots and lots of laughs with their new baby Mothers of the Brides.
